Updates to our Privacy Policy
Updated this week

At Anthropic, we regularly review and update our Privacy Policy to better protect and inform you. As our products evolve we will keep you informed of the changes here.

Summary of changes to our Privacy Policy, effective December 17, 2024

You will see that we have:

  • Updated our wording to give more relevant examples of the instances in which Anthropic acts as a data processor when processing personal data on behalf of our commercial users;

  • Included a link to our new Notice on Model Training (more details below)

  • Updated our wording to better reflect the variety of interaction methods available with Claude (such as dictation)

  • Clarified potential areas of ambiguity in the previous wording of Section 10 (Legal Bases for Processing). These changes are non-substantive clarifications to better describe our current practices and do not stem from any changes to our data processing activities

  • Reorganized some of the sections to make content easier to read (again without changing the substance of any of our disclosures)

  • Expanded Section 12 (Supplemental Disclosures for Residents of Brazil) to reflect our use of Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for international data transfers outside of Brazil

We have published a new Notice on Model Training to explain how our large language models are ‘trained’ and how personal data obtained from third party sources may be used as part of the training process. This notice also includes information about the ways in which personal data of individuals who are not registered users of our services may incidentally be processed as part of our services, and the privacy rights such individuals may have with respect to their personal data.
